Otumfuo to Attend Grand Akwasidae Celebration in Maryland, USA

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is expected to attend a grand Akwasidae celebration in Maryland, United States, in a move that has generated excitement among the Ghanaian and Asante diaspora.

Akwasidae is one of the most significant festivals in the Asante calendar, observed every six weeks to honour ancestors and celebrate the heritage of the Asante Kingdom. The festival is known for its rich display of tradition, including colourful kente attire, drumming, dancing, and customary rites.

Otumfuo's participation is expected to strengthen cultural ties between the Asante Kingdom and Ghanaians living abroad while promoting Ghana's rich cultural heritage on the international stage. The event will also provide members of the diaspora with an opportunity to reconnect with their traditions and celebrate their shared identity.

The Maryland celebration is anticipated to attract attendees from across the United States, making it one of the largest Akwasidae events held outside Ghana.
