Political commentator Akosua Manu has criticised the government's handling of Accra's recurring floods, arguing that fiscal priorities have been placed ahead of investments needed to protect lives and property.
Reacting to the recent flooding in parts of the capital, Manu said the government has focused on maintaining a strong fiscal image while critical infrastructure, including drainage systems and flood mitigation projects, has not received sufficient attention.
Her remarks have reignited debate over the balance between fiscal discipline and public investment, particularly as Ghana continues its economic recovery efforts. Critics argue that inadequate drainage, poor urban planning, and delayed infrastructure projects have contributed to the persistent flooding experienced during the rainy season.
The comments come as residents in several flood-prone communities continue to count their losses following heavy rains.
